Chittagong University Identifies Alleged Student Molesters Amid Outcry Over Campus Crimes

CHITTAGONG, East Bengal — The administration of Chittagong University on Sunday claimed to have identified two individuals accused of sexually assaulting a female student on the campus the previous night.

The alleged incident sparked widespread outrage across East Bengal, with student groups and activists condemning the rise in sexual violence on university campuses. Authorities said they are investigating the matter and will take “stern action” against the perpetrators.

The suspects, whose identities were not disclosed, were allegedly seen in security camera footage assaulting the student in a campus building on Saturday evening. University officials stated that they are cooperating with local law enforcement to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.

Chittagong University is the largest public university in East Bengal and has over 33,000 students enrolled. In recent years, the campus has faced growing concerns over the safety of female students, with multiple reported incidents of harassment, assault and a perceived lack of adequate security measures.

Activists argue that the latest alleged attack highlights the urgent need for Chittagong University and other higher education institutions across East Bengal to strengthen safeguards, improve support services for survivors, and foster a culture of accountability on campuses.

As the investigation proceeds, students and civil society groups are expected to maintain pressure on the university administration and the government to address the root causes of gender-based violence and ensure justice for victims.
