ISLAMABAD: The federal government and provincial authorities have agreed to immediately roll out a mobile app-based quota system for providing subsidized fuel to two- and three-wheelers. The move aims to ensure targeted relief for low-income groups and curb leakage of public funds.
The decision was taken at a high-level consultative meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and attended by officials from the provincial governments. The meeting discussed the current status of petroleum product availability in the country, which was deemed adequate and stable.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication presented proposals for technological solutions to facilitate a targeted subsidy mechanism, emphasizing transparency and efficient delivery. Provincial leaders shared their perspectives on the prevailing situation and the need to promote responsible fuel consumption behavior.
The participants agreed to expedite efforts to finalize a framework for the targeted subsidy using technological tools, while ensuring continued coordination between the federal and provincial governments. This move is expected to provide much-needed relief to the low-income strata and minimize the leakage of public funds.
The Finance Minister highlighted the importance of striking a balance between providing public relief and maintaining fiscal prudence in the country’s policy responses. The meeting underscored the commitment of the Centre and provinces to work together in addressing the challenges faced by the public during the ongoing economic situation.
As the government rolls out the app-based fuel quota system, the public will be keenly watching to see if the targeted subsidy is effectively delivered and if the measure can indeed curb the wastage of public resources. The success of this initiative will depend on its transparent and efficient implementation.
Going forward, the government’s ability to balance fiscal responsibility and public welfare through innovative technological solutions will be crucial in navigating the current economic landscape.
